Joint Cancer Genetics Meeting & the 15th International Meeting on the Psychosocial Aspects of Hereditary Cancer Brief Information

The Joint Cancer Genetics Meeting and the 15th International Meeting in the Psychosocial Aspects of Hereditary Cancer (IMPAHC) is a multidisciplinary meeting co-organised by Cancer Research Malaysia, the Malaysian Oncological Society, the IMPAHC International Committee and University Malaya Medical Centre. This meeting aims to provide a forum for education in particular for oncologists and cancer genetics researchers on the genetics and psychosocial aspects of hereditary cancer.

The anticipated 150 – 200 international, regional and local delegates will comprise of clinicians, researchers and health professionals from areas such as oncology,  clinical genetics, surgery, psychology, nursing and research

 The CANCER GENETICS meeting will cover topics such as: 

  • Overview of cancer genetics
  • Inherited predisposition to cancer : which genes and how to test?
  • Panel testing versus targeted testing
  • Somatic mutations to Germline
  • Impact of mutations to treatment and risk management
  • Mainstreaming cancer genetic testing

 The IMPAHC meeting will cover topics such as : 

  • Rapid testing post cancer diagnosis
  • Mainstreaming of genetic testing (including a parallel workshop)
  • Truncated pre-symptomatic counselling for gene testing
  • Psychooncology support and resilience in hereditary cancer
  • Psychosocial effects of risk reducing surgery
  • Psychosocial impact of genetic testing in Asia (as this is the first IMPAHC meeting to be held in Asia, we expect a lot of interest from our colleagues from India, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Singapore and Malaysia)
  • Psychosocial impact of genomics testing

 Parallel Workshops (Sunday, 24th September 2017):

Workshop 1: Hope-based intervention for individuals susceptible to hereditary cancers
Facilitator: Professor Samuel Ho (Professor of Psychology, City University of Hong Kong)

Workshop 2: Mainstreaming Cancer Genetics : practical aspects of training oncology and surgical health professionals
Facilitator: Margaret Gleeson (Hunter Family Cancer Service, Australia)

Abstract Submission

 Submission Themes and Format 

You will need to submit your abstract in four main sections: Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusions. Abstracts must be no more than 300 words long. Tables can be included and any contents do count towards the word limit.

 Your abstract will be categorised into one of the themes you indicated during abstract submission.

  • Psychosocial issues in genetic and genomic testing
  • Psychosocial issues in cancer risk management
  • Cross cultural issues in genetic testing
  • Mainstreaming genetic testing
  • Cancer genetics and genomics (poster only)

Please note that case reports will not be accepted for presentation at this Conference.

 Poster format (POSTER PREPARATION

The poster should be a visual presentation of your submitted abstract. Posters should meet the following criteria:

  • TITLE
    The title should reflect the content of your poster and match your abstract submission.
  • CONTACT INFORMATION
    Name, organisation, telephone number, e-mail address and of the corresponding author and the affiliations of all coauthors should appear on the poster.
  • SIZE
    The poster must be no larger than portrait A0 (841mm × 1189mm).
  • LETTERING
    The poster should be easily readable at a distance of two metres. Use UPPER and lower case for general content as the use of all-capital text is difficult to read. Avoid using mixtures of type/font styles.

Presenting authors must register for the Conference. You must submit your e-poster in advance. Please ensure that you have registered and paid the appropriate registration fee.
