ANDY KHOO BOO TEIK
Chief Executive Officer
Andy Khoo has had over 38 years of experience being involved in mostly multinational corporate business, sales and marketing management. He worked mainly in the IT industry for global giants; the likes of Microsoft, HP, Andersen Consulting (today’s Accenture), NetApp and EMC.
Additionally, he has worked in some other industries including automotive and cellular. Andy has also done extensive consulting to local and multinational companies in industries as diverse as online, media, food manufacturing and semiconductor manufacturing. During those years, Andy has been based in Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, USA and UK; in roles which spanned country, regional and sometimes global responsibilities.
As for industry organizations, Andy previously chaired the Malaysian chapter of Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) and was an active councilor for several years at the National ICT Association of Malaysia (PIKOM).
Aside from his corporate persona, Andy has deep personal interests in social and community organizations. He has headed and has been advisor to several neighborhood associations including Duta Nusantara, Damansara Idaman, Prima16, O.G. Heights and Claridge Homeowners Cooperative. On the social side, Andy was actively involved at different times with Rotary International (as Club President and Assistant District Governor for Malaysia), Habitat for Humanity and several other local charities.
A passionate foodie and wine-cum-whisky enthusiast, Andy has been a member of and also sometimes served on the local council of gastronomic societies like Chaine des Rotisseurs, International Wine & Food Society, and Amanti della Cucina Italiana.
PROFESSOR DATIN PADUKA DR. TEO SOO-HWANG, OBE
Chief Scientific Officer
Professor Datin Paduka Dr Teo is the Founding Chief Executive of Cancer Research Malaysia. Together with Tan Sri Tunku Ahmad Yahya and Toh Puan Dr Aishah Ong, she started working on plans to establish Cancer Research Malaysia in 1997 and returned to Malaysia in January 2001 to lead the first non-profit Cancer Research Malaysia laboratory.
Prof Teo obtained a First Class Honours in Biochemistry at the University of Cambridge, and a PhD in the same university funded by the Wellcome Trust.
Prof Teo has led significant research studies focusing on in breast and ovarian cancers in Asians, and successfully developed tools that have transformed the management of individuals with inherited predisposition to cancers and new ways of treating cancers.
She is an Adjunct Professor of University of Malaya, a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences, and an Eisenhower Fellow. She was awarded the Darjah Kebesaran Datuk-Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah (DSIS) which carries the title Datin Paduka, and the Honorary Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth II for services to medical research.
PROFESSOR DR. CHEONG SOK CHING
Senior Group Leader, Head & Neck Cancer Research
As Head of Translational Cancer Biology and Digital Health, Professor Cheong establishes and implements Cancer Research Malaysia’s research programs in these departments.
Receiving her First-Class Honours Degree in Biochemistry from the National University Malaysia (UKM), she studies the mechanisms underlying cancer development, particularly focusing on head and neck cancers and utilizing this understanding for the development of novel therapies. Professor Cheong has also developed innovative tools for the early detection and follow-up of patients with high-risk oral lesions and oral cancer.
Her work has received international recognition including the President’s Award from the International Association of Oral Maxillofacial Pathologists, the L’Oreal for Women in Science Award amongst others. She is the current Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali Professorial Chair at Universiti Malaya.
MS. YAP FUI FONG
Head of Finance, HR, and Admin
As a trained accountant, Fui Fong has worked in a number of German and USA companies in Malaysia and Singapore and she brings with her experience in establishing accounting systems to ensure the operational backbone of Cancer Research Malaysia.
