CRMY Explores Regional Expansion of AI-Powered Oral Cancer Screening
Cancer Research Malaysia (CRMY) is exploring opportunities to expand its AI-powered Mobile Mouth Screening Anywhere (MeMoSA) initiative into Indonesia and Cambodia, with the aim of improving access to oral cancer screening and early detection in underserved communities.
The initiative was highlighted by CRMY Chief Scientific Officer, Prof Dr Cheong Sok Ching, during the Milken Institute Asia Summit 2026, where she was interviewed by Bernama News on the potential of technology to address gaps in oral healthcare across the region.
MeMoSA is an artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled mobile health platform designed to support the early detection of oral cancer. Through regional collaborations and tele-consultation capabilities, the initiative aims to connect communities with screening support and specialist advice, particularly in areas with limited access to conventional healthcare facilities.
CRMY is currently engaging potential collaborators in Indonesia and Cambodia while seeking funding to support the proposed expansion. The organisation is also exploring AI-enabled tools to assist specialists in analysing oral images, helping to address the shortage of expertise in oral lesion assessment.
These efforts reflect CRMY’s commitment to translating scientific innovation into practical solutions that strengthen early cancer detection and improve access to care for underserved communities.
