When Nilai Turned Pink: Hundreds Run to Make a Difference

When Nilai Turned Pink: Hundreds Run to Make a Difference

If you’re a die-hard fan of the colour pink, Sunday morning on 26th October 2025 at AEON Mall Nilai would’ve felt like heaven. The AEON mall was transformed into a sea of pink and positive energy as around 600 runners gathered for Race Against Cancer (RAC) 2025, Cancer Research Malaysia’s (CRMY) second edition of the event. Families, friends, survivors, and supporters came together with one shared mission: to make strides toward a cancer-free future.

Bringing some charm and wit to the stage was Jian Yang from the University of Nottingham Malaysia, representing PharmNotts, the university’s Pharmacy Society and one of CRMY’s volunteer teams. His lively hosting set the tone for a morning filled with cheer, sweat and plenty of heart.

Joining the crowd that morning was YAM Tunku Ali Redhauddin Ibni Tuanku Muhriz, Tunku Besar Seri Menanti and Chairman of Cancer Research Malaysia, who not only officiated the event but also took part in the run. His warm presence drew loud cheers, especially when he greeted the people of Negeri Sembilan in their local dialect, a heartfelt “Waghih datang!” moment that made everyone smile.

In his speech, Tunku Ali said that every effort brings us closer to a future free from the fear of cancer.

“The funds raised through RAC will support CRMY’s life-saving research, from developing new cancer treatments to advancing prevention and early detection, all aimed at saving more Malaysian and Asian lives. Race Against Cancer also champions a healthy lifestyle and reminds Malaysians that every step, every donation, helps move research forward.”

To get everyone moving, the Delfina Runners kicked off the day with a high-energy warm-up session and judging by the crowd’s enthusiasm, it definitely worked! Soon after, runners lined up at the starting arch, ready for flag-off.

Throughout the morning, the event was a colourful mix of fun, learning, and community spirit. At the CRMY booth, participants got hands-on with the Know Your Lemons demonstration. Learning how to spot early signs of breast cancer using the famous lemon kit. Aurelius Hospital offered free breast examinations to encourage early screening, while PMB Aluminium set up a career booth for those exploring new opportunities.

And of course, no Malaysian event is complete without refreshments. Runners cooled off with drinks from the ever-popular Milo truck, grabbed refreshments from Boat Noodle, and sampled Farm Fresh milk varieties. The excitement didn’t stop there. The Kidzoona mascot made a surprise appearance, much to the delight of the kids (and, let’s be honest, a few adults too).

Among the participants were several senior runners, including an 82-year-old aunty who said the event made her “so happy” and that she’s already looking forward to joining the next one. Meanwhile, children could be seen chasing bubbles and laughing, a reminder that even in a race against cancer, joy and hope lead the way.

As runners crossed the finish line, many queued to get their spinning medals engraved. A small touch that turned their achievement into a personal keepsake. Afterwards, Delfina Runners returned for a warm-down session, guiding participants through gentle stretches and good laughs.

By late morning, the open space outside AEON Mall Nilai was filled with pink-clad runners relaxing, snacking, taking selfies, and basking in the post-run glow.

Race Against Cancer isn’t just about crossing the finish line. It’s about moving together toward a future free of the fear of cancer. Every step, every laugh, and every drop of sweat that day reminded everyone that hope is stronger when shared.

And if you missed this one, don’t worry. There’s always next year’s race. Lace up, show up, and run for a cause that truly matters.
